| What applications and operating systems are required? |
Operating system - PC: Windows 98, 2000, XP, Vista. Application: Internet explorer |
| What IP ports are needed to use the client application? |
GlobeMeeting™ requires the use of two communication ports, being 443 (HTTP protocol over SSL) and 80 (Alternative HTTP port or otherwise known as web port).
What are these ports used for?
443 : Port used by GlobeMeeting™ for the transfer of data
80 : Port used by GlobeMeeting's™ web portal
These ports can be customized. We use these ports by default on our servers as company network administrators generally unblock them.
Should you use or purchase your own server, you will have the liberty to use any given open port in your company, granted you are assured that a chosen port causes no conflict, which generally is a responsibility held by the network administrator. |

| Is GlobeMeeting™ compatible with office applications such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint? How can I integrate this type of file? Can I use the source files (.xls, .doc, .ppt) directly? Do I need to convert them to HTML? |
By using the "broadcast" option, any web page (HTML) is made available to participants. Applications such as Word, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat can be broadcasted as long as all participants have the application installed on their respective computers.
In the case where a participant does not have a required application, it can be done using through the application sharing functionality.
All documents can be broadcasted at any time. |
| Is the interface multilingual? |
Yes. GlobeMeeting™ is offered in French, English, Italian and Spanish.
The language can be controlled with the simple click of a button in the options menu, or it can be determined during the scheduling of the meeting. |
| What equipment do I need for using GlobeMeeting™? |
| To summarize the details presented in the section “minimum system requirements”, you need a computer, headphones with a microphone, a Webcam (optional), and the GlobeMeeting™ application. |

| Unlike other software of this type, no other application is needed for its use. All you need is the GlobeMeeting™ application. |
| What factors affect the performance of my meetings? |
The Internet in general and the performance of your computer can affect the performance of your meetings. If you use your own IP network, performance will be optimal.
Furthermore, GlobeMeeting™ can be configured for IP networks. |
| Does it help to have a high-speed Internet connection? |
| Although it always helps to have a faster Internet connection, you simply need a basic DSL / cable connection to immediately see the benefits of using GlobeMeeting™! |
| What is the difference between document sharing and application sharing? |
Document sharing means sharing files that have been made accessible to the other users so that they can be downloaded.
Application sharing on the other hand has two modes: Normal mode wich allows the sharing of an application, for example Word or Excel.
You can only share the desired window or all windows attached if necessary.
In Desktop mode, you share everything that appears on your computer screen. In short, Normal mode lets you give control of a particular application to a remote user, whereas Desktop mode gives the remote user full control. |
| What types of files or applications can I share? |
| You can share almost any type of file: photos, videos, Word documents, and Web pages. |
| Can I share several documents at once? |
| Yes, you can share several documents at once, but only if you are in Desktop mode. |
| What happens if the people who attend the meeting have different screen resolutions? |
| Everything actually depends on the configuration of the moderator’s screen. A full screen mode, available in the software, facilitates viewing while sharing. |
| Can I prevent individuals from joining my meeting? |
Yes, it is possible, when reserving the room, to add a password for accessing the meeting.
Furthermore, a user must be registered in a room to have access to it. |
| What does GlobeMeeting™ offer that others don’t? |
The application has advantages that give it an edge over its closest competitors. For example, it allows private or group discussions and conversations in text or voice, without the cost of long distance.
It offers archiving capabilities that no other application has. Also, with its interaction tools, it is possible to get the reactions of participants or to “raise one’s hand” to attract attention.
Furthermore, GlobeMeeting™ can be either sold by license or by a pay-per-usage method. Therefore, the user can use it in an unlimited manner at modest cost. |
